Stretch Marks
Stretch marks
Stretch marks, also known as striae, are a common skin condition that occurs when the skin stretches or shrinks rapidly. They often appear as long, thin, streak-like marks on the skin and can have variable colours and texture. These can occur on various parts of the body, but mostly involves the abdomen, thighs, hips, breasts, upper arms, and buttocks.
While stretch marks are very natural, many people may feel self-conscious about their appearance. However, it's important to note that stretch marks are incredibly common and affect individuals of various ages, genders, and body types. It's estimated that up to 80% of individuals develop stretch marks at some point in their lives.

Signs & Symptoms
The signs and symptoms are similar and include development of long, usually linear, streak-like marks on body. These may appear red, purple, or pink initially, but over time, they often fade to a lighter color and may become less noticeable.
Causes/ Triggers
The main reason for stretch marks is rapid changes in the body size or shape, which causes the connective tissue in dermis to break. This can happen in certain conditions, like-
- Pregnancy
- Puberty
- Rapid weight gain or loss
- Muscle building
Home Care
- Moisturise skin regularly
- Use hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E based moisturisers
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle
- Do not misuse steroids as they also damage skin and cause striae
